Die BODMAS is ’n wonderlike hulpbron wanneer ’n probleem met verskeie bewerkingsimbole (+, –, ×, ÷) opgelos moet word. U kind moet dit memoriseer en oefen, aangesien hy dit in alle Wiskunde-verwante vakke sal gebruik.
BODMAS lys die volgorde waarin die probleem opgelos moet word, m.a.w watter deel van die probleem eerste, tweede, ensovoorts opgelos moet word.
Orde van bewerkings
In ’n probleem waar daar slegs + en / of – is, word dit opgelos deur van links tot regs te werk.
Voorbeeld:      17 – 5 + 6 + 2 – 5
Oplossing:      17 – 5 = 12 + 6 = 18 + 2 = 20 – 5 = 15
 
In ’n probleem waar daar slegs × en / of ÷ is, word dit opgelos deur van links tot regs te werk.
Voorbeeld:      4 × 8 ÷ 2 ÷ 4 × 10
Oplossing:      4 × 8 = 32 ÷ 2 = 16 ÷ 4 = 4 × 10 = 40
 
In ’n probleem wat ×, ÷, + en – het, word dit opgelos deur EERSTE × en ÷ te doen.
(Deling en vermenigvuldiging kom voor optel en aftrek in BODMAS.)
Doen dan die + en die , werk van links na regs.
 
Voorbeeld:      50 – 100 ÷ 4 + 5 × 3 – 10
Oplossing:     100 ÷ 4 = 25     5 × 3 = 15
                          50 – 25 + 15 – 10
                          = 25 + 15 = 40 – 10 = 30
 
In ’n probleem waar daar ( ), ×, ÷, + en – is, los op deur EERSTE die ( ) te doen.
(Hakies kom voor deling en vermenigvuldiging in BODMAS.)
Doen dan die ÷ en die ×.
Doen uiteindelik die + en die , werk van links na regs.
 
Voorbeeld:      (38 + 4) + 24 ÷ 6 × 2 – 15 + 6 ÷ 3
Oplossing:      38 + 4 = 42       24 ÷ 6 × 2 = 24 ÷ 6 = 4 × 2 = 8       6 ÷ 3 = 2
                          42 + 8 – 15 + 2
                          = 42 + 8 = 50 – 15 = 35 + 2 = 37
